Summertime and the livin's easy... right?
It's time for short shorts and bikini tops, beaches and pina coladas, vacations and sunbathing.... For some of us these words make us feel giddy with excitement. For others, we break out in hives and want to crawl under a rock, not to come out until winter so we can hide in oversized sweaters and avoid all things body-revealing. This summer I'd like to invite you to a whole new approach to summer. Let's replace self-loathing with self-love. What is self-love, really? I know for sure that for me self-love is not spa days, manicures, or "retail therapy" where I spend money I don't have. Nor is it drinking six margaritas and inhaling chips and guac poolside, pretending I feel glamorous when I don't (been there, done that). Self-love is NOTICING what makes me feel most ALIVE, that which raises my frequency and makes me vibrate with possibility. How do you know when you are self-loving right? Because self-love FEELS like love. When I take the time to notice what makes me feel most alive I can then choose activities and mindsets that foster that feeling. For me that looks like
But here's the twist for me this summer. Self-love can go SO MUCH DEEPER when you are committed to self-curiosity. I'm allowing myself to be curious about what I am capable of-- from a place of love. Without attachment to a goal or result. Just curious about what this 41-year-old body and mind is capable of at this moment in time and space.
Curiosity, with no intention other than LEARNING what I'm capable of, and then falling in love with that girl-- THAT is self-love. It is limitless. Think about the way we love our children-- we see all of their potential and want them to BELIEVE that they can do anything... but then we model the opposite. We believe we "can't". "I'm too fat/old/busy/scared/yadda yadda yadda." I'm not talking about setting a goal and achieving it no matter what. That can be a form of self-love, but that can also be an excuse for self-abuse. I'm talking about marveling in the possibilities of what YOUR one, unique existence is capable of producing and being. Just to see what happens. With no attachment to a result. Like the result? Keep doing it. If you don't, stop. No biggie. What is possible for you this summer? What are you secretly curious about? What are you capable of? Try something new, with the only intention being to LEARN about yourself from a place of love. Let's do it together. There's still room on this self-love bus that I'm drivin'. |
